Burundi Gatara Honey Espresso
Summary
Specialty espresso from Burundi, grown in Gatara, Kayanza province, at 1650-1800 masl. Produced by smallholder farmers delivering to the Gakenke washing station, which was built in 1991 and has 2685 registered members across 22 hills. The coffee is Red Bourbon, processed as Honey: cherries are hand-picked, floated, sorted, depulped within 6 hours, then dried slowly on raised beds for 2-3 weeks with repeated sorting. Tasting notes of pomegranate, nougat and molasses, with citric acidity, silky body and a fruity finish.
