Banko Gotiti
Summary
An elegant washed Ethiopian coffee from Banko Gotiti, in the Gedeb woreda on the southern edge of Yirgacheffe. Grown by smallholders tending 1-2 hectare coffee gardens at 1950-2100 masl, where landrace varieties are intercropped with false bananas and indigenous shade trees. The Banko Gotiti Washing Station, established in 2009 and managed by Museyid Sermelo, hand-sorts cherries for ripeness and density, depulps them, ferments in tanks, then washes, grades and soaks the parchment before drying on African beds for 10-15 days. Cup profile of honey, nectarine and Earl Grey tea.
