El Turpial Ethiopian Landrace
Summary
This coffee comes from Finca El Turpial, a farm in Cumbitara, Nariño, Colombia, run by producer Emerson Felipe Narváez, a Q Grader known for experimenting with rare varieties. The lot is an Ethiopian Landrace variety, rarely grown in Colombia, adapted to the farm's high-altitude conditions. The coffee is washed with an extended fermentation: 48 hours in whole cherry, followed by 32 hours in mucilage, before washing and drying on raised beds. The extreme altitude encourages slow cherry maturation, contributing to a complex and expressive cup with pronounced complexity and clarity, featuring notes of citrus, stone fruit, and earl grey tea.
