Shantawene

Summary

A natural-processed community lot from smallholder "garden farmers" around Shantawene village, between Bombe and Bombe mountain in the Bensa district of Sidama, Ethiopia. Grown on plots of around 1.5 hectares at 2,000-2,200 masl on fertile clay soils, shaded by native Wanza, Shola and Tsid trees, and harvested October to December. The lot comprises Ethiopian heirloom varieties 74/110 and 74/112. Cherries are hand-picked at full maturity and dried slowly on raised African beds. Layered dark berries and citrus carried by a brown sugar sweetness.
