Nicaragua La Picona
Summary
Single-origin washed coffee from Finca La Picona in the Las Manos community of Dipilto, Nueva Segovia, Nicaragua, produced by Martha Lucía Albir Sotomayor. The nine-hectare farm grows coffee under natural shade from native trees and fruit plants. This lot is the rare large-bean Maracaturra variety, a hybrid of Maragogype and Caturra. Ripe cherries are hand picked and taken to Finca Bethania, where the washed process involves cherry selection, flotation, an eighteen-hour rest, then fermentation in tanks for 24-36 hours before export. The cup is juicy and complex with medium body and molasses sweetness, showing notes of blood orange, clove and molasses.
