Giakanja Aa, Kenya
Summary
Giakanja AA is a washed Kenyan coffee from the Giakanja Washing Station in Nyeri, established in 1968. Grown at 1,700–1,800 m between the southern slopes of Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Range, the coffee is predominantly traditional SL varieties, hand-picked at peak ripeness, floated and pulped in the evening, then given a 20-hour dry fermentation followed by a further 24–26 hours in tanks and a final wash before drying on raised beds to 10% moisture. The high elevation and cool climate slow cherry maturation, producing a vibrant, clean cup with blackcurrant, pink grapefruit and black tea notes.
