Summary
The Simbi washing station, founded by Abdul Rudahunga in 2013, is located in the Huye district of Rwanda's Southern Province, near the village of Cyendajuru. The station processes coffee cherries from approximately 1000 smallholder farmers during the harvest season. In its founding year, Simbi entered the top 10 of Rwanda's Cup of Excellence and has maintained a quality-focused approach ever since. The station employs mostly women, who make up about 80% of the 85 permanent staff. The coffee is made from Red Bourbon variety grown at 1650-2250m altitude, processed using semi-dry method with anaerobic fermentation. Flavour notes include rosehip, hibiscus, and rhubarb.
