Kenya: Mitondo Aa
Summary
A fully washed AA lot from Mitondo Coffee Factory in Kirinyaga County, Central Kenya, part of the Mwirua Farmers' Cooperative Society since 1966, where over 1,000 smallholder farmers deliver freshly picked cherries. Grown at 1,600 m.a.s.l. on the fertile volcanic slopes of Mt. Kenya, with varieties SL28, SL34, Batian and Ruiru 11. Cherries are hand-picked, sorted, pulped and fermented for 12-16 hours, then washed and soaked for 24 hours before slow drying on raised beds for 7-15 days. In the cup: plummy sweetness, black tea, raisin, dark chocolate, red fruit, rhubarb and sugarcane with a floral finish; elegant, silky mouthfeel and a clean, jammy, balanced profile.
