El Salvador Helvetia
Summary
The Helvetia Estate is located in the Ilamatepeq mountains, 3 miles from Concepcion de Ataco, El Salvador. The 35-hectare farm was established in the 1960s and originally planted with Bourbon coffee trees, of which 90% remain, with the remaining 10% planted with Pacamara variety. The Escalon family also grows orange trees on the farm. The high altitude results in foggy and humid weather from April to October and dry, cool, windy conditions from November to March, with temperatures ranging 10-33°C. Coffee from Helvetia has won Cup of Excellence awards in 2005, 2009, and 2012, and the farm received recognition from the National Coffee Program.
