Boxcar Coffee Roasters is a specialty coffee roaster in Boulder, Colorado, founded in 2010 by Vajra and Cara Rich. They roast on modified vintage Probat drum roasters, aiming for sweet, rich cups. Their buying is relationship-driven: most coffee comes from Divisadero Farms in El Salvador, and they pay well above Fair Trade prices. They run two Boulder cafes (Pearl Cafe & Bakery and Mesa Cafe & Kitchen) plus a bakery and training lab. The Boilermakr, their brew method, came from roasting at altitude. They also offer subscriptions. It's coffee with a mountain-town spirit — experimental, personal, and built on long-term friendships.
